Raptors and Predators of the Kgalagadi

We spend our time between two incredibly diverse areas of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park

Discover The diversity in the Kalahari

Rooiputs Private Concession Area

We spend a total of 6 days at this lodge (Split between Polentswa Lodge). It is located within the captivating Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park on the Botswana side, 25 km north of Two Rivers (Twee Rivieren). The lodge is perched along a mature red sand dune, overlooking a busy waterhole.

Predators are the area’s big attraction and include the black-maned Kalahari lion, leopard, brown and spotted hyena, jackal, caracl and wildcat. The area is one of Africa’s best parks for the cheetah, which thrive by hunting in its fossil river valleys and the surrounding Kgalagadi dunes.

Accommodation

Each chalet is set on an expansive wooden deck and constructed out of a clever mix of wood, thatch, canvas and glass. It consists of a sleeping area with double or twin beds, a sitting area and en-suite bathroom, toilet, an outside shower and an expansive veranda screened from the next door neighbour.

To keep guests comfortable during the summers and winters, the thatched roof has an insulating effect. The large veranda outside the bedroom is also under thatch and this allows for the calming Kgalagadi breeze to make the stay quite comfortable in the summer.

The thatched main building contains a spacious lounge, bar, dining room and a restful reading area. Furnishings show the rich ethnic textures of Southern Africa and the desert.

A private concession area allows for exclusive game drives with sundowners although most game are found along the Nossob valley.

Polentswa Private Concession Area

Polentswa is located 222 km from Two Rivers along the predator rich Nossob Valley on the Botswana side of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. The camp is nestled amongst tall trees on a high dune overlooking the Polentswa Pan with its waterhole.

Accommodation

In contrast to Rooiputs, Polentswa’s accommodation is a classic tented camp capturing the romance of a nostalgic bygone era.

The camp comprises of six classic safari tents all built on raised wooden platforms and under spacious canvas roofs with a private veranda. The tents positions show wide sweeping views of the Polentswa pan, normally littered by antelopes in the early mornings. Each tent has a sleeping area, a desk, en-suite bathroom, and a exhilarating outside shower open to the desert and to the stars.

The main building consists of a spacious lounge area with a splendid views. In addition there is a viewing deck with a telescope, a bar, a dining room and a boma. The main building is originally furnished to reflect the spirit and essence of an authentic tented safari camp.

A private concession area allows for exclusive game drives with sundowners although most game are found along the Nossob valley.
